History of GOMACC

In 2002/3 government encouraged the formation of a National Federation of Community Art Centers. In June 2004 a national committee was elected representing eight provinces. This Government initiative was in response to the National Department of Arts & Culture wanting to ensure that the art centers built during the RDP initiative were functioning. As part of this process the Gauteng Organization of Community Arts Centers [GOMACC] was formed in 2003 and constituted a few months later as a Non Profit Organization [NPO.] GOMACC broadly aims to develop capacity and build a network of community art centers and practitioners enabling the centers to operate effectively and deliver arts programmers.
